Forest Whitaker Joins Fox’s ‘Empire’ for Season 4

Oscar winner will play a music icon who worked with Lucious years ago

Forest Whitaker is taking his talents to “Empire.” 

The Oscar-winning actor will appear in a multi-episode arc on the Fox drama’s fourth season.

Whitaker will play Uncle Eddie, an affable music legend who gave a young Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) his first radio spins. Decades later, Eddie reappears during Lucious’ rehabilitation, leading Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) to ask him to produce a song for the label’s 20th anniversary.

When Season 4 begins, Lucious has finally returned to public life after the Las Vegas explosion. Meanwhile, his family members have their own interests in mind as the patriarch recovers.

“Empire” is produced by Imagine Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. The series was created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong. It is executive produced by Daniels, Strong, Brian Grazer, Ilene Chaiken, Francie Calfo and Sanaa Hamri.

Whitaker was recently seen on the big screen in the 2016 films “Arrival” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” He is repped by WME and Brillstein.

“Empire” launches Season 4 on Sept. 27 on Fox.
