Jennifer Lawrence Lands 4 Vogue Covers (and One’s a Painting)

Vogue commissions artist John Currin to paint Lawrence

Actress Jennifer Lawrence is set to appear on four different versions of Vogue’s 125th anniversary issue — and one is a painting by John Currin.

The New York Times has a preview of Currin’s painting, in which star of “The Hunger Games” films and the upcoming “Mother!” is decked out in a fancy candy-striped hat and a billowy tan top. The Times notes that the whimsical image is a departure from Currin’s often erotic style.

“To be in a situation of producing a cover for this famous magazine, I’m a little scared,” Currin told the Times. “I do worry about decorum.”

Currin said he doesn’t usually worry about likenesses, but did make a concession to realism in this case, because Lawrence is so well known.

“It has to look like her,” he said.

The other three anniversary issue covers will feature actual photographs of Lawrence, and Vogue enlisted heavy hitters for those images, as well. The photos are by Annie Leibovitz, Bruce Weber and the duo Inez and Vinoodh.

This will be Lawrence’s third appearance on the cover of Vogue — or third, four, fifth and sixth appearance, depending on how you count. She has also appeared on the cover of Vogue’s British edition.
